The School of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering comprises two major fields: Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering at the undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate levels.

The Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering programs at the University of Ulsan started in 1973 and 1985, respectively, under the agreement between the Governments of the Republic of Korea (ROK) and the Government of the United Kingdom (UK). The field of Naval Architecture of the school has been designated as the unit to be brought up in priority and financially supported by the Ministry of Education of Korean Government since 1984.

In 2002, NAOE at UOU became the first Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering program to get the accreditation from Accreditation Board for Engineering Education of Korea (ABEEK).

Over the years, NAOE at UOU has provided quality engineers to the shipbuilding industry and gained a respectful reputation for the quality of its courses.
